Hopefully the rain storms have ceased for the winter. We are so saturated that it’s a wonder we have dry land anywhere! From fires to floods…I am ready for a change. I am ready for sunshine, green leaves and brightly colored blossoms!
My sister is slowly clearing out her craft room, sorting through what to keep and what to get rid of. We were checking out all the little pieces of fabric she has and all the colors and patterns in them. I love colors and patterns…the way they change when placed alongside a different color or pattern. And not just in fabrics. When I go to the hardware store I like to browse through all the paint chips in the paint department. I check out the different combinations; look at the designer concepts and color photographs. I check out the different kinds of flooring with the variety of patterns, types and shades. I stroll through the garden department and check out all the many varieties of plants. All with color and patterns; so much for the eye to see and enjoy!
Color…I love it! Roses, petunias, succulents; shrubs and trees; new flooring for the kitchen and the new counter tops, the concrete block walls along one side of my yard, stepping stones with patterns in them. And all of it depends on light. Color isn’t color without light. Patterns and colors change as the light changes. It all comes back to light.
Gen.1:3 Then God said, “let there be light”; and there was light.” Imagine that moment when light burst in on creation and everything came alive with color and patterns! How dull and bland the world would be without light to give us color and patterns! I John 1:5 “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” John 8:12 “And Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness.” Just as light colors the natural world so the Light of Jesus within us colors our hearts, souls and minds filling us with His love and His hope. As believers full of light we become ‘a colored people’ joined together by faith in Him; some bright with cheery colors, others calm and peaceful, others intense and passionate. We are born with His light within us and our colors shine forth in different personality traits; each colored with the light that shines forth from them. What a dark, drab world it would be without us.
How sad that the light of so many is snuffed out before it has a chance to brighten the world around them. How sad that so many walk in darkness and never come to know there is a light that has been turned off within them. My heart aches for those who live in darkness. Some are hungry for the light and we do what we can to reach in and turn that Light on for them; while others prefer their darkness thinking they are ‘enlightened’, smug with their sense of superiority never knowing how dim and dreary their world really is.
Matt. 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Be the light in your world; let your colors be seen and bless those around you with God’s love.
