TIME IS PASSING QUICKLY

August is nearly half over and 2019 is more than half over. Time seems to be speeding up. It’s been more than four weeks since our return from our cruise. School is open, summer vacation is over. Things are changing. I can feel the changes but I can’t define them yet. Political, moral and spiritual battles are raging all around and yet…when I get up in the morning my day seems much the same as all my days have been.

A storm is not only coming, but it is upon us and still…daily life feels untouched. I know the storm is there, but my senses are not registering it. This past week, Northern California experienced a thunder storm that generated hundreds of lightning strikes..mostly in the mountains. Here in the valley we heard a little thunder, but were largely unaware of the massive amount of lightning strikes all around us. Like what is going on in our nation, we mostly go about our lives as if nothing was happening.

Last year we had several major fires, fires that threatened towns and communities, burned one town almost out of existence, and killed more than a hundred people, not to mention animals; and displaced thousands. The entire Northern part of California and much of Southern California were hugely impacted by these fires. Yet, this year lightning strikes all across the northern part of the state and we went about completely unaware of them or the danger they posed.

The indicators are there, but we aren’t paying any attention. Our lives are like that…we go about our daily lives never noticing the turmoil around us until it comes at us like a major firestorm that destroys everything in its path. Why don’t we open our eyes and see the danger that is coming upon us? Jesus talked about eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear. Are we acting like the three monkeys that hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil? Pretending that all is well…or just going through life and closing our eyes and ears to anything that might upset us. Germany was like that during World War II.

In one town, when the allies came to deliver the area from the presence of Nazis, they found a camp full of dead or dying prisoners in a concentration camp. The nearby town had been living their lives like that camp didn’t exist. They refused to know anything about it. So the commanding officer of the allied troops made the local citizens go into that camp and bury the dead. He made them see what they didn’t want to see; and he made them face it and deal with it.

The year is spinning past us. Next year we face a major election battle…a battle that will define what we believe in and what we are willing to fight for. Will we close our eyes and pretend that when it is all over life will go as it always has? Or will we recognize our danger and move to take a stand for our way of life? Here in California there is even a battle going on about keeping Donald Trump’s name off the ballot. Wasn’t there a big hullabaloo about someone trying to control our last election? Facebook and Google are under fire for suppressing views and information that they don’t like and promoting views they want to spread to unsuspecting individuals who don’t know they are being manipulated. It’s a war and if we don’t know what we believe or we are not willing to stand firm on our values and principles we will lose.

I try not to get sucked into all the hype and misinformation, but if I don’t stay close to God…read His word and pray…I know I will get lost in all the vitriol being slung around all over the place. So, I bow my head and my heart and I seek His plan and purpose for this nation; I seek His will and submit myself to it. Only in Christ will we find victory…for ourselves, our families and our country. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
